Socialism only hope for the poor: NWP

LAHORE: The National Workers Party (NWP) held a condolence reference to pay tribute to C R Aslam, who passed away in July, for his invaluable contribution to the welfare of the country's labour class. Speakers on this occasion, paid rich tribute to CR Aslam saying he had rendered excellent services for working class and now it is the responsibility of labourers to carry on his struggle to transform the system of the country into socialism, which is the only hope for the poor. They urged the working class to play its due role in the country's politics in order to save their fundamental rights form the cruel clutches of dictatorship.

Renowned human rights activist IA Rehman, renowned scholar Hameed Akhtar, Pakistan Labour Party (PLP) General Secretary Tariq Farooq, Abid Hasan Minto, Dr Sufian, Kaneez Fatima and Ahmed Saeed Karmani spoke on the occasion and pledged that they would accomplish CR Aslam's mission.

I A Rehman said Pakistan was standing at the crossroads of its history where it needed restoration of true democracy, justice, provincial autonomy and civic liberties.

He said CR Aslam struggled throughout his life to fulfil this dream. He said that CR Aslam established the Socialist Party in 1971 to provide a platform to workers, farmers and labourers to raise their voice against oppression.

He urged workers to follow in the footsteps of CR Aslam for realising their dreams of a dynamic society where the rule of law, supremacy of constitution and fundamental freedoms could be cherished by the rulers and the masses.

Abid Hasan Minto said that CR Aslam would never be forgotten in the annals of history as his struggle always pivoted around advocating oppressed classes.

NWP pays tribute to CR Aslam

LAHORE: The National Workers Party (NWP) on Friday organised a meeting of to pay tribute to Socialist leader CR Aslam who had passed away in July.

Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) director IA Rehman said Pakistan needed true democracy, justice, provincial autonomy and civic liberties, the ensuring of which was the dream of CR Aslam. He added that CR Aslam established the Socialist Party in 1971 with the purpose to provide an active platform for workers, farmers and labourers to struggle against the oppressed policies of the rulers.

Pakistan Labour Party (PLP) general secretary Farooq Tariq said labourers and workers should play an active role in the country’s political affairs to ensure that their fundamental rights are protected.

Columnist Hameed Akhtar said CR Aslam had been a beacon of light for labourers. He said Aslam preached socialism throughout his life and did not budge from his principled stands. He urged party workers to follow Aslam’s footsteps and bring about the changes in society that their leader had envisioned.

NWP president Abid Hasan Manto said Aslam’s name was etched in the annals of history and would never be forgotten for his efforts against feudalism.

Aslam’s son Dr Qais said it was the responsibility of the country’s working class to keep on his father’s struggle for socialism in the country.
